Pathomorphological evaluation of the antituberculosis efficacy of Rifizostrep in experimental calf tuberculosis

Abstract

This study presents the results of pathomorphological and histomorphological investigations of the internal organs of experimental calves used in studies of the efficacy of the Rifizostrep preparation. A novel combination anti-tuberculosis drug, Rifizostrep, was developed by researchers at the Scientific-Research Institute of Veterinary. Administration of this preparation to animals demonstrated its sufficiently effective bactericidal activity against M. tuberculosis in experimental tuberculosis. Concurrently, it was found that Rifizostrep exerts no adverse or detrimental effects on the organism as a whole or on the structure of the internal organs of the experimental calves. Analysis indicated that prolonged administration of the preparation resulted in minor structural changes, characterized by haemosiderosis in the cellular structure of the parenchymal organs and a slight increase in gastrointestinal secretion. Based on the findings of pathomorphological and laboratory histological examinations, the preparation was established to be harmless to the animal organism and to exert no general or acute toxic effects.
