SURGICAL TACTICS IN CASE OF RUPTURE OF PULMONARY ECHINOCOCCAL CYSTS

Abstract
The data of the surgical treatment of 182 patients with pulmonary echinococcosis were analysed. There were 77 men (42.30%) and 105 women (57.70%). A complicated course of echinococcosis in the lungs was observed in 56 (30.76%) patients. Of these, 34 (60.71%) had rupture of the cyst into the bronchus, 15 (26.79%) had suppuration of the cyst and 7 (12.50%) had rupture of the cyst into the pleural cavity. Drainage of the cysts under thoracoscopic or fluoroscopic control was used in 12 patients: in 7 (58.33%) cases the cavities were drained under the control of a thoracoscope and in 5 (41.67%) cases under radiological control. Surgical interventions for rupture of the cyst into the bronchus or the pleural cavity were performed through a minithoracotomy approach. One month after the surgical treatment, all patients were prescribed chemotherapy with albendazole at a dose of 12 mg/kg per day for 30 days.
