Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the level of mathematical literacy on the basis of the PISA 2003 mathematics examination questions and the assessments of eighth-grade students. The study examined the relationship between the level of mathematical literacy of eighth-grade students and the variables of type, preschool education, the family's monthly income and the parents' level of education. The scanning model was used in the study. The research group of the study consists of 1047 randomly selected students from among the eighth-grade students of 12 primary schools located in the centre of the city of Eskisehir. Frequency and percentage values and the chi-square test were used in analysing the data. According to the results of the study, it was found that the majority of the students who took part in the test were below the third level of mathematical literacy, while significant correlations exist between the distribution of the level of mathematical literacy and the variables of type, the family's monthly income and the parents' level of education.
