Abstract

This article examines the evolution of colour terms in the Russian and Uzbek languages in the lexical-semantic aspect. It analyses the process of the formation and development of colour vocabulary, as well as the changes in the semantics of colour terms at various stages of linguistic development. Particular attention is paid to the broadening and narrowing of meanings, to metaphorisation and to the emergence of figurative uses of colour names. A comparative analysis of colour terms in the Russian and Uzbek languages is carried out, and the general tendencies and the national and cultural features of their evolution are identified. The results of the research make it possible to understand more deeply the dynamics of colour vocabulary in languages of different structures and the specific character of the reflection of the linguistic picture of the world.
