THE MICROBIOLOGICAL SPECTRUM OF ROOT CANAL INFECTIONS AND THEIR CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: THE MICROBIOLOGICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF CHEMICAL TREATMENT METHODS

Abstract
Root canal infections are one of the most complex biological processes among endodontic pathologies, and their development is directly connected with a multicomponent microbiological ecosystem. This scientific and theoretical article analyses the microbiological spectrum of root canal infections, the localisation of microorganisms within the system of the anatomical canals of the tooth and their biological stability. The hydrological features of the root canal and the role of the dentinal tubules and of the lateral and accessory canals in microbial colonisation are described on a theoretical basis. In addition, the microbiological effectiveness of the chemical treatment methods applied to endodontic root canals, their antibacterial spectrum and their mechanisms of action on biofilms are evaluated on the basis of scientific sources. As the results of the research, various scientific articles and dissertations are analysed and the advantages and limitations of chemical irrigation agents in inactivating microorganisms are demonstrated. The article serves to explain the processes of endodontic disinfection on a scientific basis and offers theoretical conclusions on the effective control of root canal infections.
