HISTOLOGICAL CHANGES OF THE CARDIAC NERVE CELLS DURING ISCHEMIC STROKE

Abstract
Ischaemic stroke has a secondary adverse effect on cardiac activity by damaging the autonomic regulatory centres of the central nervous system. In recent years the concept of the brain-heart axis has been widely discussed, and the important role played by the intracardiac nervous system (ICNS) in cardiac complications after stroke is being established. This article analyses, on the basis of scientific sources, the histological and cellular changes that occur in the intracardiac ganglia and the nerve fibres of the heart under the conditions of ischaemic stroke. In the hypothesis-based results, neuronal degeneration, disturbance of the sympathetic-parasympathetic balance, apoptosis and neuroinflammation processes are considered as the main morphological signs.
