THE HEALING PROPERTIES OF POMEGRANATE PEEL

Abstract
This article analyses the wide range of healing properties of pomegranate peel. The microelements and antioxidants present in pomegranate peel, such as pelletierine, potassium, magnesium and iron, determine its medicinal qualities. In ancient medicine, including in the time of Hippocrates, the dried form of pomegranate peel was used to treat wounds and ulcers. The article gives a broad account of the benefit of the various infusions, decoctions and powders prepared from pomegranate peel in the treatment of intestinal diseases (dysentery, salmonellosis, typhoid fever), gastric and intestinal ulcers, dysbacteriosis, worms and haemorrhoids, and also of diseases of the oral cavity, toothache, cough, hair loss and acne. The importance of pomegranate peel in improving the quality of sleep, strengthening immunity, cleansing the body of toxins and rejuvenating it is particularly emphasised. It has been proved that diseases can also be prevented and treated by consuming it in the form of an alcoholic tincture, a tea mixed with green tea, and a decoction with honey added. The article also notes that pomegranate peel has almost no side effects, but that caution is necessary when consuming it in excess of the norm or taking it together with certain medicines. This article sets out, from a scientific and practical point of view, the ways of using pomegranate peel effectively in folk medicine.
