Abstract

This article examines the role of alkaloids and antibiotics. The natural source for obtaining quinoline derivatives is a plant of the madder family — the bark of the cinchona tree, which contains alkaloids (2~15%) in the form of salts of quinic acid. In 1814 quinine was isolated from it, and subsequently another 26 alkaloids.
