Abstract

The study is based on the examination of data on 359 people who had tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. In such tumours laparoscopic operations have a number of advantages over traditional surgical methods because of their lower invasiveness. Nevertheless, performing this procedure in the presence of an adhesive process and dilated loops of the small intestine entails certain risks, such as technical difficulties and the probability of intraoperative complications. The postoperative rate of complications and the mortality decreased to 10.0% and 0.83% respectively thanks to the improvement of the methodology and a clearer definition of the indications for laparoscopic operations. The results of treatment of patients with tumours of the gastrointestinal tract improved considerably thanks to the use of advanced methods of diagnosis, surgical intervention and postoperative care. Overall mortality was 4.5%, and postoperative complications amounted to 6.7%.
