Abstract
The article provides brief information about power transformers, the main breakdowns and prerequisites for the failure of a power transformer; the development of classifications of shortcomings in the transformer and the stages of their formation, non-compliance with conventional modes, the circumstances imposed on the protection of transformers and the types of protection used for power transformers, as well as ways to increase operational reliability and extend the service life of the transformer.
