THE ISSUE OF THE SOCIAL CHARACTERISATION OF THE CHARACTERS' SPEECH IN LITERARY WORKS

Abstract
The article analyses the distinctive features of the characters' speech in creating and revealing character. The manifestations of speech communication, that is, the social characterisation of the characters' traits and qualities through their speech by means of monologues and dialogues, are substantiated with examples taken from literary works. The role of monologue and dialogue in elucidating the individual and professional character of the personages, together with their types and criteria, is indicated. The article concludes that monologue is the most convenient means of depicting the various psychological states and inner experiences of the person being portrayed.
