THE IMPACT OF VITILIGO ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS: PSYCHOSOCIAL AND CLINICAL CORRELATIONS

Abstract
Vitiligo is a chronic depigmenting skin disease that has a pronounced negative impact on the psycho-emotional state and social adaptation of patients. The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of vitiligo on the quality of life of patients and to identify the relationships between the clinical characteristics of the disease and psychosocial indicators. The study included 120 patients with vitiligo aged from 16 to 60 years. Quality of life was assessed using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), followed by a correlation analysis of clinical and psychosocial parameters. It was established that vitiligo is accompanied by a moderate to marked decrease in quality of life, especially in patients with generalised forms of the disease, with involvement of exposed areas of the skin, in women and in young people. Significant correlations were revealed between the extent of depigmentation, the duration of the disease and the level of psycho-emotional distress. The data obtained emphasise the need for a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to the management of patients with vitiligo, with obligatory consideration of the psychosocial aspects of the disease.
