THE PLACE OF GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ’S WORKS IN WORLD LITERATURE AND THEIR STUDY

Abstract

This article analyses the place and influence of the work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a major representative of Latin American literature, in the world literary process. It is shown that in such novels as "One Hundred Years of Solitude", "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "The Autumn of the Patriarch" the writer gives an artistic interpretation not only of the historical and social problems of Latin America but also of the "condition humanum" - the universal essence of human existence. The article describes the international scholarly research carried out on the works of Marquez, in particular the formation of his magical realism style, his narrative technique and the interpretations of the political and philosophical layers of his writing. The writer's work is also assessed as a distinctive aesthetic phenomenon during the Latin American "Boom" and in the literary processes that followed it. The results of the research reveal the enormous contribution of Marquez's work to world literature and show that his creative legacy is being studied within various scientific paradigms.
