Abstract

This article analysed, on the basis of scientific sources, the morphological structure and the functional features of human skeletal muscles as well as the age-related changes that occur in the process of ontogenesis. In the course of the study, the types of muscle fibres, the features of innervation and blood supply, the change in muscle mass with age and the anatomical and morphological mechanisms of the sarcopenia process were described. The data obtained are of considerable importance for the fields of clinical anatomy, rehabilitation and gerontology.
