Abstract

Preschool teacher training programmes in Uzbekistan are aimed at developing the skills of future teachers. Proceeding from this context, the aim of the study was to assess how the necessary pedagogical competences are formed through the undergraduate (that is, pre-service) teacher training programme. Based on a phenomenological research design, this work was carried out with the participation of students, teachers, department heads and representatives of the education sector in the preschool education programme of Kokand University in Uzbekistan. A total of 18 participants, selected by convenience sampling, were involved in the study. Structured interviews and direct observation of the lesson process were used to collect qualitative data. The results showed that the preschool teacher training programme has a strong system that effectively develops pedagogical competences. However, significant problems in this process were also noted: limited practice, a shortage of resources and the existence of language barriers. The main conclusions show that it is necessary to raise the quality of pre-service teacher training by strengthening the content of practical classes in the curriculum, creating sufficient practice opportunities for students, enriching extracurricular activities, using electronic platforms to improve knowledge and skills, refining assessment methods and ensuring consistent, useful feedback.
