TYPES OF IRONY AND METHODS OF EXPRESSING IRONIC CONTENT

Abstract

This article discusses irony and its types, situational and axiological irony, direct and indirect irony, situation-specific and verbal irony, situational and associative irony; ironic content, the ways of expressing ironic content, sarcasm, antiphrase, antiphrasis and its types, and other related issues. Irony has been studied by many linguists, and the definitions given to irony hardly differ from one another. The ways of expressing ironic content in the Uzbek language are varied and differ from one another. E. Ibragimova noted in her dissertation that they possess the property of gradation.
