HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF THE POLICY OF FORMING NATIONAL IDENTITY DURING THE INDEPENDENCE PERIOD (1991–2010)

Abstract

This article analyses the historical foundations and social impact of the policy of forming national identity during Uzbekistan's period of independence in 1991-2010. This process, which began against the background of the collapse of the Soviet Union, examines strategies aimed at strengthening national identity through state symbols, the education system and literature. The article gives particular attention to the legacy of the Timurids, to the literary work of such figures as Alisher Navoi and Abdulla Oripov and to their role in shaping national identity. Challenges such as globalisation and the integration of ethnic groups are also analysed. The article highlights the influence of the concept of national identity on changes in society during this period and shows its contribution to the cultural and social development of modern Uzbekistan. In addition, the article analyses the historical roots and ideological foundations of the policy of forming national identity implemented after Uzbekistan gained independence, and its impact on socio-political and cultural-spiritual life. It also examines the main directions and results of this policy and the changes in public consciousness during 1991-2010.
