"THE EVOLUTION OF CHORAL ARRANGEMENT OF FOLK SONGS: COMPOSITIONAL STRATEGIES AND PERFORMANCE PRACTICE"

Abstract

The article examines the issues of choral arrangement and adaptation of folk songs in national musicology. It analyses the terminological differences between these concepts, as well as the key stages in the evolution of the genre and the techniques for adapting monodic folklore to polyphonic presentation. Particular attention is paid to the formation of the national choral tradition of Uzbekistan in the twentieth century and to the composers' strategies for the interaction of folk melodics with the academic principles of harmony and polyphony. The approaches of V. Uspensky, T. Sadykov, M. Burkhanov and other composers are studied. A conclusion is drawn about the significance of choral arrangement as a means of preserving and actualising the folk musical heritage.
