THE INFLUENCE OF MORPHOLOGICAL MODIFICATION ON THE RECURRENCE OF LIVER ECHINOCOCCOSIS

Abstract

To determine the influence of the morphological form of echinococcal cysts on the rate of disease recurrence, we carried out a retrospective analysis of the operation protocols and established that in 93 (36.9%) operated patients the morphological structure of the cysts corresponded to the echinococcus hominis modification, in 128 (50.8%) to echinococcus veterinorum and in 31 (12.3%) to echinococcus acephalocystis. Moreover, among the 47 patients in whom recurrence of the disease developed, morphological signs corresponding to echinococcus hominis were revealed in 29 (61.7%) and to echinococcus veterinorum in 18 (38.3%), while no recurrence was detected in those operated on with a morphological structure corresponding to echinococcus acephalocystis. Thus, of the 93 patients operated on for liver echinococcosis with a morphological structure corresponding to the echinococcus hominis form, 29, i.e. 31.2%, had a recurrence of the disease, and of the 128 patients operated on with the echinococcus veterinorum morphological modification of the cysts, 18, i.e. 14.1%, also developed recurrent echinococcosis in the long term after the operation.
