COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT OF OBSTRUCTIVE BRONCHITIS IN CHILDREN

Abstract

Acute pathology of the respiratory organs occupies a leading place in the structure of childhood morbidity. The leading place among them belongs to obstructive bronchitis, which is characterized by a high prevalence in the early age group, the severity of its course and the possibility of progression to severe forms. Obstructive bronchitis is an inflammatory disease of the bronchi accompanied by their narrowing and difficulty in breathing. It may be caused by viral or bacterial infections, allergic reactions, exposure to harmful substances, as well as by chronic lung diseases. The aim of the study is to optimize therapeutic measures for obstructive bronchitis in children. Materials and methods of the study: We examined 48 children who received inpatient treatment in the pulmonology department of the Regional Multidisciplinary Children's Department and in the paediatrics department of the Republican Scientific Centre for Emergency Medical Care. Group I comprised 24 children with obstructive bronchitis who received conventional treatment; group II comprised 24 children who received montelukast in addition to conventional treatment. Thus, the inclusion of montelukast in the comprehensive treatment of children with obstructive bronchitis improves its final results so effectively that it acquires a strictly obligatory character.
