Abstract
This article covers the history of the hormone adrenaline, its synthesis and its main functions in the body. As a result of the earliest scientific investigations the activity of the adrenal glands was determined and the effect of adrenaline on blood pressure and on the body was studied. This hormone is released mainly in states of stress and plays an important role in the "fight-or-flight" response. The article also analyses the effect of adrenaline on metabolism and on the nervous system.
