THE CHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF CARDIAC GLYCOSIDES

Abstract
Cardiac glycosides (cardiac digitalis glycosides) are compounds used to regulate and strengthen the activity of the heart. They are obtained mainly from Digitalis (foxglove) plants, and they may also be obtained from other plants and from certain synthetic sources. Cardiac glycosides are used mainly in regulating the heart's urinary output, blood circulation and muscular activity. They are widely used as medicines that strengthen the heart and regulate its rhythm.
