THE INFLUENCE OF PSYCHOSOCIAL STRESS ON CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASES: PATHWAYS TO CHRONICITY AND PROGRESSION

Abstract
In the 1980s the Canadian physiologist H. Selye introduced the concepts of "stress" and "stressor", where stress is the reaction or adaptation of the organism, and a stressor is a factor that forces the organism to react and to change its functioning with deviations in homeostasis, the stressor itself triggering the process of stress. However, in order to bring about a functional shift in the organism, the stressor must be sufficiently significant and must pose a threat. Subsequently, negative emotions become the leading factor in the development of emotional stress. The main purpose of stress reactions is the maintenance of homeostasis, the control of which is achieved by the "stress system": the central and peripheral nervous system and the neuroendocrine mechanism of development.
