Abstract
Modern applications of electrochemistry in medicine are diverse: from miniature batteries regulating the heartbeat of people with heart diseases to hydrogen fuel cells powering spacecraft. Electrochemical analytical methods are used for water purification, the analysis of trace impurities in air and water, environmental monitoring, and the regulation of the content of substances in brain tissues responsible for the onset of diseases such as Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease, manifested by a considerable involuntary tremor of the limbs and head, is caused by a deficiency of dopamine in the patients' brain. Dopamine is one of the so-called neurotransmitters, chemical substances released by the nerve cells of the brain. Brain signals are transmitted by means of these substances
