Abstract

The tales in the epic poem "Hayrat ul-abror" confirm the Sufi ideas of the discourses and serve to prove them by example, yet a confirming ideological conclusion is nevertheless drawn. These tales are short in form and attention is focused on relating the main event. However, even within such a short plot the poet was able to show the hero's conduct, his principal virtue and gift, and his quick-wittedness. By setting a particular problem in each discourse and indicating the ways of solving it in the form of a thesis, Navoi created images of Sufi and historical mystics, each more beautiful than the last.
